About Me

My name is Emelie Coello. I am a student at The City College of New York majoring in electrical engineering. I previously attended Queens Technical High School where my career in electrical engineering began. In ninth grade, I took introduction to computer science. I learned basic Python programming, used Scratch, built circuits on a breadboard, and used Arduino to code the circuits to do something different. In tenth grade, I explored the three information technology majors at my school which are computer repair, cloud networking, and pre-engineering electronics technology. I had a class dedicated to each of them during three different parts of the school year. Computer repair informed me of the many types of computer hardware, cloud networking gave me more practice with coding, and pre-engineering engaged me the most as it directly related to building circuits on a breadboard like I had done in ninth grade. After going through all three classes, I got into my first choice for my major which was pre-engineering. Eleventh grade was when I truly began to understand what electricity is and how circuits work. That year I became a Certified DC Technician through ETA International and a Certified Copper Cabling Specialist through C-Tech. Although, terminating and punching down copper cables was challenging. By twelfth grade, circuit analysis and using a multimeter were like second nature to me. Then I became familiar with both the digital and analog oscilloscope and earned three more certifications: OSHA 30 Certified, Certified AC Technician, and Certified Fiber Optic Cabling Specialist. In addition, I soldered copper splices and components onto PCBs and block programmed Tello drones.
